Rayene Bouzitoun

Global leader and2018 Loran Scholar

Rayene Bouzitoun is a young Algerian-Canadian woman and global leader. She is passionate about working to counter systemic racism and advancing gender equality. In 2017, Rayene delivered an address on the links between radicalization and violence at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly. Last year, Rayene served as an inaugural member of Prime Minister’s Youth Council. Most recently, Rayene worked alongside youth in Northern Ethiopia to improve women’s and children’s health and rights as part of the Born on Time program.  She is currently a second-year law student at the University of Ottawa and a 2018 Loran Scholar.  Before moving to Ottawa, Rayene studied at Collège de Maisonneuve in Montréal, Quebec, where she is a long-time active member and past chair of the Forum jeunesse de Saint-Michel. 


Rayene Bouzitoun est une jeune Algéro-Canadienne et leader mondial. Elle se passionne pour la lutte contre le racisme systémique et la promotion de l’égalité entre les genres. En 2017, Rayene a prononcé un discours sur les liens entre la radicalisation et la violence à la 72e session de l’Assemblée générale des Nations Unies. L’an dernier, Rayene a été membre inaugurale du Conseil de la jeunesse du Premier ministre. Plus récemment, Rayene a travaillé avec des jeunes du nord de l’Éthiopie pour améliorer la santé et les droits des femmes et des enfants dans le cadre du programme Born on Time.  Elle est actuellement étudiante de deuxième année en droit à l’Université d’Ottawa et boursière Loran 2018.  Avant de déménager à Ottawa, Rayene a étudié au Collège de Maisonneuve à Montréal, au Québec, où elle est depuis longtemps membre actif et ancienne présidente du Forum jeunesse de Saint-Michel.
