Senior Advisor, Tech Diplomacy, Global Affairs Canada
Simon Pomel is Deputy Director for Canada-U.S. Commercial Relations at Global Affairs Canada (GAC). He is responsible for export development and diversification in life sciences, clean tech, and information and communications technology. Simon is also developing a framework for technology diplomacy around the notion that tech has become a core economic, security and social issue cross cutting every aspect of GAC’s international mandate.
Most recently, Simon held positions in the Office of the CIO at Treasury Board Secretariat, where he examined privacy implications of digital services, and in GAC’s Strategic Policy Branch where he architected the first departmental data strategy and developed a number of policy papers on the future of work and disruptive technologies. As a career diplomat, Simon has also served overseas in Jordan and Zambia.
